Winco VPN relies on valid and up-to-date security certificates on Windows, which can be obtained by updating via Windows Update. Occasionally, a certificate may not be up to date and the following error message may appear in the Winco VPN SSL Client log:

In addition to the Windows certificates described above, this error may still occur:

  • Computer date and time are incorrect;
  • Lack of the root certificate for installing the VPN Client. In this case, a clean installation of the VPN Client is required;
  • Or due to the expiration of the DST Root CA X3 Certificate Authority (CA) certificate (expired on 09/30/2021).

If your ISRG Root X1 is expired, you must replace it with the new ISRG Root X1, which will carry out future validations.

Before proceeding with the step-by-step installation of the new certificate, you must:

  • Disconnect and then close the VPN Client program (by right-clicking the icon in the Windows tray, next to the clock).

Download the certificate below and after downloading, close all browsers.

https://letsencrypt.org/certs/isrgrootx1.der

Locate the directory where the certificate was saved, right-click on it and select “Install Certificate”.

In the Certificate Import Wizard, click “Next” > check “Place all certificates in the following repository”

Click “Browse”, choose the “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” folder, click “Next” and “Finish”.

Restart the computer to validate the configuration and when you return, open and connect the VPN Client to access the service you need.
